Ah,i stay in chennai

The Rough Guide, the equally authoritative cousin of The Lonely Planet, doesn’t mince words while introducing Chennai: “Hot, congested and noisy, it is the major transportation hub of the South, but most travellers stay just long enough to book a ticket for somewhere else.” While these observations can hardly be disputed by anyone who ventures out on Chennai’s roads on a daily basis, they are also flawed.
Chennai might be hot, but the heat is not murderous as it can be in north India during the summer months. And what about the period between November and March? The fact that you wake up sniffling every morning during these months shows Chennai can be cold too. When you are a traveller who is on a whirlwind tour of South India, you stay in Chennai for, at the most, two days before proceeding to Pondicherry or Bangalore or Kerala. You don’t expect them to make Chennai their second home, do you?
It is highly unlikely that such observations would offend Chennai, which has always been a prisoner of perceptions anyway. If it is Chennai, it only has to be about idli and dosa, Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa, Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan, and Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music. Any deviation becomes news. In Delhi or Kolkata, the opening of a new pub or a mall is likely to pass off as a routine event, but in Chennai, at least till five years ago, such events were seen as harbingers of change. Chennai is changing, they screamed, every time a new pub opened. Chennai is changing, they screamed, every time a mall opened. Chennai is changing, they screamed, every time a continental restaurant opened. These days, they all say, “Wow, Chennai has changed.” And you thought only the other metros were entitled to ‘change’?

The Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus or CMBT is a bus terminus in Chennai, Indiabuses.Spread over an area of 37 acres in Koyambedu, this is the largest bus terminus in Asia and is accredited with the ISO 9001:2000 quality certification. It can simultaneously station 270 buses and handle over 2 thousand buses and 2 lakh passengers a day catering to outstation

Yet, Chennai hasn’t changed a bit: the Margazhi festival is still held every December, actors still influence politics, and people still drink filter coffee the first thing in the morning.
In other words, this is the only city in the country where you can witness, first hand, tradition as well as transformation. In a place like Delhi, you’ll have to hunt for tradition. In Kolkata, you’ll itch for transformation — though things are a lot better there now. It’s only Chennai that brings you the best of both. And most often, it is technology that binds the two Ts. This is one facet of Chennai you can’t help admiring, doesn’t matter if you like the city or dislike it otherwise. And it’s the mix of tradition and transformation that has made it into a city where cosmopolitanism and culture co-exist in harmony. There is something for everyone — you could be a retired civil servant or a bright engineer, religious or rationalist, a Venezuelan or a Bengali.
Recently, some parties called for a bandh in Chennai (the Feb 4 bandh in support of Sri Lankan Tamils), but life was normal on the bandh day. In Kolkata, a bandh literally means a bandh. Everything comes to a standstill. That way, law and order in this city is good..It is still a pleasure to drive in Chennai, at least when compared to driving in Bangaloru or Kolkata. Well, Chennai is still green, while Mumbai has become a concrete jungle. And today, Mumbai is as hot as Chennai. And Chennai, like Kolkata, has culture. There is music here, Carnatic music. Also, the beaches are clean, far cleaner than the Juhu beach. I like Marina and Elliot’s Beach.

The tsunami that hit the coast in Chennai left an unprecedented 131 dead on that Sunday morning. This included four from the northern suburb of Ennore. Most of the dead including children were fisherfolk. At least four of the rest were of those who came for early morning walk along the beachfront. In the fishing hamlets, when the water swell came in, several of the fisherfolk died in their sleep. Some of the children playing in the beachfront were also swept away.Still Chennai woke up again and all went out with their daily business like any other day

I find Chennaiites are tolerant, hard working, sincere and happy people. Everyone is welcome here as long as they don't disrespect or demean this city or its people. I hate the politics here, but then I hate the way it is almost everywhere else.
One can make a mathematical deduction now. People who’ve lived in Chennai at some point or the other — no matter if they had also lived in more happening cities and had the choice of making them their home — are always glad to embrace the warmth of Chennai when it comes to settling down. Clearly, there is a lazy, seductive charm about the city i now call home.

The sleepless eco slump

It has been said by many well known economist round the world that this "Recession" is undoubtedly the longest and deepest" since the 1930s and more government rescue funds are needed to stabilize the Global financial system. It all started with US Financial system crashing down followed by Europe.
The incredible size of the U.S. current account deficit, and the national debt, possibly triggered the economic panic that made difficult for monetary policy to affect. No one really knows, since the current U.S. debt level is unprecedented. The U.S. economy has been living on borrowed money for a long time, and the economy is experiencing the unwinding of that excess currently. However, it probably won't be enough to disarm the global economy's growth, so a worldwide depression is unlikely. Although the U.S. economy may see another quarter of negative GDP growth, the global economy may not even slow that much, thanks to growth in China ,India and other emerging markets.
We are in the middle of a very severe recession that's going to continue through all of 2009-10.It's the bursting of a huge leveraged-up credit bubble. There's no going back, and there is no bottom to it. It was excessive in everything from subprime to prime, from credit cards to student loans, from corporate bonds to muni bonds. You name it. And it's all reversing right now in a very, very massive way. At this point it's not just a U.S. recession. All of the advanced economies are at the beginning of a hard landing. And emerging markets, beginning with China,India are in a severe slowdown. So we're having a global recession and it's becoming worse.
Then came the "Bailout Plans" .The emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, more commonly known as the bailout of the U.S. financial system, is a law which was signed into power that gives the United States Secretary of Treasury up to 700 billion dollars with which it can purchase assets and mortgage-backed securities from banks which are facing issues. This bill, an idea which was originally brought to the table by President George W. Bush and the Secretary of Treasury Henry Paulson, was designed to inject new life into the struggling financial sector of the U.S. during the financial crisis of September-October 2008.
This type of plan, otherwise known as a bailout, would plant new life into the economic sector by giving liquidity to bankrupt or near bankrupted entities, which could be corporations or banks, which would then need to meet a set of short-term obligations in order to qualify for the assistance. More often than not, a bailout is proposed as a sort of resolution in order to fix some kind of cash flow problem, such as a cash flow crunch, and is needed to tide entities over. These entities, given the aid of a bailout plan, can then continue to survive until the short-term problems which have caused the crunch are resolved. This kind of plan is usually only offered when the entity or entities in question have sufficient assets and are usually offered by either a government or by another group of investors. Often, the cost of a private bailout includes turning over control of the company or entity in return for the aid.
There is also the argument that perhaps the government should have let the banks fall, if in fact a fall was coming at all. In this case, the flaws of the current system could fix themselves instead of the government spending billions of dollars in order to protect the system which got the banks in trouble in the first place
Being recession-proof means being prepared in case you lose your job. What if, no matter how amazing an employee you are, you get laid-off? You must have a financial backup plan. Have at least three months of expenses saved in case something happens. The optimal amount of savings is six months but I know many find that unrealistic. If you can do six months, however, all the better.
Many companies are now struggling with falling revenues and tighter profit margins and are forced to slash jobs in huge numbers, the result is households continuing to scale back spending creating a vicious cycle for the already withering Global economy.
Now everybody is feeling insecure.A guy who had devote some 5yrs of sweat n brain for a firm is now shown the Exit door and the reason given is "Performance".How out of sudden his/her performance gone down so much that the company couldn't afford him anymore.
A guy working in a IT firm in India gets only 1 day salary that client gives him/her.Rest 30-31days salary of his/her goes for the salary of all benchers and for company infrastructure. Now i have a question : before recession so many years the company have been getting profit and now the company is not ready to afford the guy coz the company is not getting any profit due to global economic slump. Is it fair as far as the professional is concerned ? If company is not able to bear the salary then why they are still doing intake of fresh trainees.I feel Experience always matters.Still companies believes in removing the highly billed experienced guy by a low cost trainee.Yeah am not against trainees getting in.If they are given offer letters then they should be given a letter stating company's position and asking them to stay @ home without pay or look for alernatives.I feel it is injustice if you think of an experience guy who had worked with devotion for the company being given pink slips to be replaced by a new trainee.
And due to this insecurities i have thought and have decided that for the next 12 months I would stay away from risky assets. I would stay away from the stock market. I would stay away from commodities. I would stay away from credit, both high-yield and high-grade. I would stay in cash or cashlike instruments such as short-term or longer-term government bonds. It's better to stay in things with low returns rather than to lose 50% of your wealth. You should preserve capital. It'll be hard and challenging enough. I wish I could be more cheerful, and I think I'll be right this year-end.

Mpact of rhymes

Who does not remember ‘jack and Jill’ or ‘twinkle twinkle little star’ , ‘baa baa black sheep’ or the 'Humpty Dumpty' ? Even as adults we can still remember the words and the tunes. Well that’s the power and impact of nursery rhymes.
We all know that the first six years of child are the foundation years for brain development. Nursery rhymes make things interesting for the children as much possible thus making learning procedure more fun filled for both parents as well as children.
Children of all ages enjoy listening to and being involved in rhymes. Nursery rhymes are an invaluable resource and provide an ideal starting point for cross- circular activities like phonics, numbers, shapes, vocabulary and general knowledge.
They can also be used to develop children’s thinking and understanding by stimulating their imagination and firing their enthusiasm. You all will be happy to read that when important cross-curricular activities are taught through something as interesting as nursery rhymes, learning becomes fun and remains so, for life.
Children have been hearing nursery rhymes since their toddler years and when these very same loveable rhyme characters are used to teach them other concepts, it makes the learning experience more varied and it also has long term impact.
But as adults, we need to be careful in our choice of rhymes for children. Our selection should be those that teach positive concepts and are not unknowingly teaching them wrong values. Choose the correct rhymes and avoid rhymes that teach incorrect habits.
Rhymes will help in developing the memory and sequencing skills in children which are important for moths. When you do rhymes together, it helps enhance bonding with your children and improves his/ her self esteem.
Hope my writings has educated you all on the importance of nursery rhymes in the building the foundation, so why don’t you start singing one for your tiny tots.

A bully named I.B.M.

Ohk first let me say for all what is a Mainframe :

Mainframe is a High performance Multi User computer system which is the most scalable, available, reliable and secured machine in the world capable of performing some Million Instructions per second (upto 569,632 MIPS) with the following characteristics:
1) Reliable single-thread performance, which is essential for reasonable operations against a database.
2) Maximum I/O connectivity, which means mainframes excel at providing for huge disk farms.
3) Maximum I/O bandwidth, so connections between drives and processors have few choke-points.
4) Reliability--mainframes often allow for "graceful degradation" and service while the system is running.

Now the question arise Who uses mainframes and why do they do it?
Answer is Just about everyone has used a mainframe computer at one point or another. If you ever used an automated teller machine (ATM) to interact with your bank account, you used a mainframe.
Today, mainframe computers play a central role in the daily operations of most of the world's largest corporations. While other forms of computing are used extensively in business in various capacities, the mainframe occupies a coveted place in today's e-business environment. In banking, finance, health care, insurance, utilities, government, and a multitude of other public and private enterprises, the mainframe computer continues to be the foundation of modern business.
I.B.M. has dominated the mainframe computer business since the category was created four decades ago. And it still gets about one-quarter of its $100 billion in annual revenue from sales, software, services and financing related to the machines.

So when an upstart, Platform Solutions in Sunnyvale, Calif., developed software that turned standard servers into systems that mimicked I.B.M.’s expensive mainframes, Big Blue fought back. After legal action failed to fend off the pipsqueak, I.B.M. resorted to a bear hug: it bought Platform in July for $150 million. And then it promptly terminated the innovative product.

Despite eliminating the Platform threat, I.B.M. still faces the wrath of many in the computer industry. The Computer and Communications Industry Association, a trade group backed by the likes of Google, Oracle and Microsoft, described the Platform deal as “a clear attempt by I.B.M. to purchase a company solely to foreclose competition in the mainframe marketplace, protecting its cash cow at the expense of consumers.”

Platform was not the only potential competitor that drew I.B.M.’s fire. At the same time that it sued Platform, I.B.M. declined to renew a patent license with Fundamental Software, which also made mainframe emulation software. As a result, Fundamental sits in limbo with a once-popular product it cannot sell, hoping that I.B.M. will change its stance.

More recently, Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft have made mostly unsuccessful attempts to pull mainframe customers away from I.B.M. by creating products that handle similar tasks but run on servers.

I.B.M. is now negotiating to buy Sun for about $7 billion, and if the deal were to occur, I.B.M. would also gain a monopoly on the key storage systems used for mainframes.

Platform argued that by running emulation technology on standard business servers, it had a cheaper, faster alternative that could meet the needs of smaller businesses, which had been neglected by I.B.M. The technology let customers run mainframe and server programs on the same hardware, meaning they could buy less and do more.

H.P. liked Platform’s concept, and in 2006, it almost bought the company for close to $200 million. Just before the deal was to close, however, it fell apart when H.P.’s lawyers discovered letters from I.B.M. stating that it would refuse to license its mainframe software to Platform.
Unable to sell products without an I.B.M. software license, Platform fired most of its staff, keeping five people to pursue the litigation. In November 2007, Platform got a jolt of cash when Microsoft joined Platform’s existing investors, including Intel Capital and Goldman Sachs, to put $37 million more into the company, allowing it to rehire staff and work on a fresh product.

I.B.M. maintains that it bought Platform for the company’s technology and talent, not to kill a competitive product.

While Platform has disappeared, its fight against I.B.M. lives on in a modified form. T3, the biggest packager of Platform’s technology, is carrying on the battle with financial support from Microsoft.

This is how things goes about in a tech Market.Big sharks killing the smaller one so that they cannot give competition when they grow up.You can just be pushed around by a schoolyard bully, or you can fight them and stand up for what you believe is right,Still some or the other like ORACLE/SAP will be coming to provide an option for the mainframe marketplace ,however I.B.M.'s Mainframe has been irreplaceable and indispensible till date. And it has been most robust technolgy Human has seen till date.Let's see how many more comes in future

Why Orkut?????

So what are social networking site: First of all you dont know you are a loser… now that you know, lemme tell you these sites are the newest way to make friends. Of these the popular ones are Face-Book which is for students, My Space which has over 50 million people, Orkut with a millon babes and Freindster which got kinda gay, so I will focus on the Orkut.

Why Orkut??Orkut is an online community designed to make your social life more active and stimulating. orkut's social network can help you maintain existing relationships with pictures and messages, and establish new ones by reaching out to people you've never met before and also may not meet in future.Still some current of excitement drives us.What is that???I need to figure this out someday .

Orkut makes it easy to find people who share your hobbies and interests, look for romantic connections or establish new business contacts. You can also create and join a wide variety of online communities to discuss current events, reconnect with old school mates or even exchange your favorite recipes. In other words we get to find unknown virtual friends with common interest and mindset.

Here sometime some says those who are really lone in life are the only one who are very frequent in Orkut. Is it correct???I would say it's not correct to measure it like this.Yeah sometime when we feel lonely outta our comfort zone we feel like talking withour virtual friends and try to refresh ourselves.Still i feel this only one side of the coin.

So what we really do here in orkut....???what we really expect here?????Sometime we really get to see big bad things happening out in orkut.Like someone hacking someone's account and mis-using it to the max by sending lewd scraps, etc, etc. And beside big time flirting with unknown virtual people (many a time gays comes with female pic acting like some lesbo..aah....pathetic realy,,,) and sex chat... we do many other things that is useful to us .Now its upto us to efficiently use them… make technology ur slave and not the other way round and then it always has its limitations.Yes to think of it, Orkut keeps me informed. Apart from those "good morning" "have a nice day" "lmao" "hi" "bye" messages, I sometimes do get good links, good news and well bad neways…and the general whats going on in chennai and other places too…

In other words Orkut is decent fun. But then I know, its kinda dumb to be a cyber coolie and sit in front of a computer to have some lame fun like teasing a guy who just dropped a pick up line on one girls scrap/thread in a forum and stuff… Ah! you think… But it happens.

Love And Friendship

Trust a man for what he is worth,
Not for what he seems.
Even if his outside is deterring,
It is his inside that gleams.

May he be near, or he be far,
Distance does not play a role.
All that matters in a friend,
Is if he cares for your soul.

All people hear, but few do listen.
All people look, but few do see.
Take your time to count your blessings,
For friends are few and far between.

Life is a road that leads to happiness,
But it’s not smooth at all.
Only a true friend helps you up,
When you trip on sorrow and fall.

I don’t need money and I don’t need fame.
I want a life that’s not a shame,
I want to be with those around me,
With those who love me for who I am.
